Merry Christmas!

Momma has got to get better at the sign...but you get the picture!
Merry Christmas to all of our readers (all five of you!)! We had a lovely Christmas with many celebrations (about 5 at last count...). This Christmas was extra special because someone turned 1 month old!!! Can you guess who?! That's right, Nolan! He is growing up sooo fast! Check out his newest trick:

Yes, that's him holding his head up, way too well for a 1 month old! and I swear he tries to kick his feet and push himself over the boppy!!! I hope he slows down, at this rate we will have a 4 month old crawler! I will update with our various Christmas activities later, we still have a busy holiday week! Nolan's Great-Grandma Ward is in town with his Great-Aunt Karen, I am hoping Nolan will learn how to bake cookies from Great Grandma while she's here! Happy Holidays everyone!

Three Weeks!

Nolan is already 3 weeks old!!! Where has the time gone?! He's already changed and grown sooo much! I can already tell my time at home with him is going to fly by! So what's he up to these days?

Eating- He nurses every 2-4 hours and is a growing boy! At last check he was 8 pounds 10 ounces!!! Yes, almost up 2 pounds since birth, three weeks ago (his MD is impressed with this weight gain, I am shocked, if he keeps this pace he will be 30+ pounds at 1 year, can we say football player??)!!! Told ya, he likes to eat, just like is Momma and Daddy!

Sleeping- At most he sleeps 3-4.5 hours at night...not too bad for his Mom and Dad (mostly Mom) but we are hoping to stretch to 5 hours soon....

Pooping/peeing-Besides eating and sleeping, pooping and peeing takes up alot of time...he fills 8-12 diapers a day! Yikes! And he's already learned some pee tricks...he's pee-ed on everything from the wall, to his clothes, to his parents, to his very own face...very impressive if I do say so myself!

Other milestones-  He knows who is Mom and Dad are and he looks right at us when we talk to him! He holds his head up pretty well, not for any length of time but can move from side to side when we do our tummy time (he's really been doing this since birth, genius I tell you!). He loves to listen to books and music! His favorites are twinkle, twinkle, Mary had a lamb, the itsey-bitsey spider, and 5 little monkeys (he loves these because these are the only songs his sleep-deprived momma can think of, please give us some suggestions!). His Daddy also swears he loves Taylor Swift...not so sure about that just yet....

This is his most favorite position:

Time...

I thought for sure while I am on maternity leave, this blog would write itself! I imagined I would have all this time on my hands to do all these things I have been wanting to do...blog, scrapbook, keep up with family and friends/coorespond better, shop, ect. Well friends, NONE of that is happening! I have no idea where my day goes...scratch that, I have no idea what I used to do with all my time, before Nolan arrived! I would like to think I am a productive person, I would get tons of things done on my days off! Now? I think it's a sucessful day if I got a shower before noon! And a shower means just that, a shower, no make-up, no spending 15 minutes to choose the perfect outfit, not even drying my hair! I am happy to simply be clean! It's amazing the difference in how I spend my time! I wouldn't have it any other way! Look at that sweet face!

He loves his hands by his face!

He's filling out!

Nolan's Birth- The un-cut version...

It is truly amazing how fast your life can change! I know we had about 9 months to prepare for the birth of our first baby but it seems like everything changed in a matter of hours, not months! After our experience my midwife told me to share our story with as many people as possible, naturally I will start with telling you, my loyal followers!

Thanksgiving night we finished our run around visiting all our relatives and eating tons of food! We ate lunch at Eric's Grandmomma's, then mid-day dinner at my parents, then dinner, dinner at Nana's. I have joked the entire time that I was sure to be in labor on Thanksgiving because I love all the Thanksgiving foods so much, but nope, no contractions what-so-ever. We headed home about 7pm and I was eager to put up our Christmas decor that evening. My Daddy and Gail were coming to visit for the weekend so I wanted to have everything ready before they arrived. Eric and I worked pretty diligently until about 10:30 and we went to bed (well Eric finished watching a football game first and thus didn't sleep til 11:30, this is important later in the story...). 11:50 I woke up and HAD to pee, immediately- this was not new since Baby T had dropped into my pelvis the last few weeks, but as I got up I knew my water had broken. No, not all over the bed, but I defiantly had leaked in my PJ's. No worries, I thought, "Baby T will be born today! I love November 25th, that's a great birthday! I will simply labor here at home as long as possible and let Eric sleep as long as possible until I can handle the pain no longer". So I got in the tub, that's what they say to do ya know. Plus I continued to leak water so I didn't want to have clothes on anyway. Plus, I was having contractions, and they hurt. I didn't time them yet, I had plenty of time I knew because this was my first baby and everyone had told me that...well,  I was in the shower/tub about 20 minutes, those contractions were no joke! I got out and woke up Eric. told him what was up and that I needed him to time these things. We were timing them at 2 minutes apart and only lasting 30-45 seconds! That can't be right I told him, they should be lasting longer if they are that close together, and they can't be that close together because I had only been contracting like 30 minutes! Well with the horribleness of the contractions we decided to call the midwife anyway just to see what she thought (I was sure she would tell us to stay at home as long as possible, and sure I was being a baby with these contractions!). She told us we better come on in and get checked if we thought they were 2 minutes apart. So we finished packing up our stuff and headed out, we didn't call anyone at this point because I was certain we had plenty of time to be in labor and notify everyone during daylight hours...

We got to VUMC at about 2am. The ride to the hospital was horrible...I could not sit up straight, had to lay my seat all the way down and opened my window (about 40 degrees outside that night....). Contracting the entire way there. In the parking lot I told Eric there would be no natural birth, I obviously could not do it, my mind was mush, I could not focus on anything but the pain. Although we talked about him being strong when I was weak, he saw my pain and quickly agreed with whatever I wanted...so got to the ER and checked in (p.s. it is very difficult to remain calm during a contraction when they are asking for insurance cards and ID's). The L and D people came for me right away with a wheelchair, I again did not want to sit down but I really didn't want to walk either so I sat and the super sweet care partner stopped the chair during my 3 contractions on the ride to the floor. When we got up there they were planning to admit us in the triage room first but the Charge nurse said they had some open beds in Land D and she felt my belly during a contraction and said she was pretty sure they would keep me so we were admitted straight to L and D (the CN also said my contractions felt moderate I would like to show her moderate in hindsight...). Anyway we got to the room by 0230 and hooked up to the monitor and vital signs and all that business, then the midwife finally got there and checked me! She looked so shocked when she said "umm that baby's head is right there...you are completely dilated and +1 station. When you feel the urge to push go right ahead!" Eric and I were shocked! What about all that first baby business, it will take 12 to 24 hours, ect? Already we are a 10? No way!!! So Eric starts texting and calling family right away. The next contraction I thought "well, I could push" and so I started pushing, while everyone around us were so busy setting up the room and putting on sterile stuff. I told them too I would love something to help with pain, I knew most options were out at this point because we were so far along, but they did offer laughing gas, and I said please. So anesthesia was paged. I continued pushing for a long time...the anesthesia girl came after about an hour of pushing (grrr...), then had issues setting it up, so I am pretty sure I ended up with about 2 puffs of that stuff through the whole thing, which by the way did nothing for my pain but the mask was a good distraction because I thought maybe this will help. This is about the time, Eric starts to feel lightheaded, my husband has never had a weak stomach, but he said the smell of the laughing gas made him feel bad and he looked like a ghost! I ordered him to sit and drink water, which he did for one contraction and was back for the next!

All the while I am pushing I am acutely aware that the babies heartrate keeps dropping with every contraction/push. My ears are trained on that audible heartrate monitor (thanks to all the procedures we do in the unit) and I knew what was going on, the midwife was so calm and let me know everything that was happening, and what would happen if the HR didn't come up between contractions. At about 4 she said she was going to get help from the resident because they may have to use forceps if the baby didn't come out with the next contraction. That was all I needed to hear to put that pushing in overdrive! On the next contraction, at 0403,  Nolan Eric Tinch was born! I was so relieved and happy and still shocked all at the same time! They put him on my belly and we just looked at each other for a long time, he was so wide awake and alert! Eric cut the cord and he cried beautifully, there was no doubt be got a good squeeze on the way out and those lungs were fine! He also had a cone head (from being in that pelvis for weeks....) and his color was a little pale but he was beautiful and healthy per my assessment! They weighed him and checked him out then he spent some time bonding with his Daddy while they finished with me! The whole night was so surreal, and quick, yet intense! They all kept telling me how lucky I was and even though I didn't feel so lucky then, I know I am lucky and the end result was wonderful! A beautiful, healthy baby and a mommy that felt great pretty much right after. Sorry so long, but didn't want to leave anything out! I wish all my pregnant friends quick deliveries and just know not everyone fits in the "first-time mother" box!

Nolan Eric Tinch was born November 25th at 403am. He was 6 pounds 14 ounces and 20.5 inches long! 10 fingers and 10 toes and completely healthy! Thus we remained thankful all through Thanksgiving and into Black Friday! Enjoy the pics, more to come! Our birth story was very exciting and unexpected, stay tuned to the blog for an un-cut version!

Thankful!

It is the day before Thanksgiving and it seems only fitting for me to express just how thankful I am this year for everything in my life! First, I am thankful for my family! All of you, extended, blended, married into, those I see daily, and those I see rarely, I am thankful for each of you! Without you I would not be who I am (for better or worse) and my life would be less full! Second, I am thankful for my wonderful friends and work family. I love you all, and feel so blessed to know each of you and let you know me! I am also thankful for both my health and the health of all those I love! Because of my profession, I know just how lucky I am to have my health and for those around me to also be generally healthy. I am thankful! I am so blessed to have been able to carry sweet Baby Tinch to term without a hint of any problem thus far! The (slightly pessimistic) nurse in me was convinced I would have a variety of troubles along the way but truly this pregnancy has been...dare I say...easy. And I am very thankful for that! I am thankful for soooo much more but really I am most thankful for the above: family, friends and health. Happy Thanksgiving Everyone!

Short update on Baby Tinch: our due date is Monday!! Yes, less than a week away! I can't believe it!! I am still feeling much better than I expected to feel at this stage and the baby is "happy" at all of our appointments (the midwives always say this when they listen to his/her heartbeat, I think it is because it fluctuates with stimulation, either way, I love hearing he/she is happy). I have not been "checked", for all I know I am dilated to 8! They told us it really doesn't change anything unless I am in labor and feeling contractions so we are just waiting on Baby T to make his/her arrival, any day now...

37 and 6

Wow! It's been a long time since I last blogged (as many of you have politely reminded me). I have many excuses...I really have been very busy, between work, clinicals, and preparing for Baby T there is not a lot of time to blog (plus, when I am not super busy, I sometimes choose to rest/nap instead of blog, I blame Baby T...).

Enough with the excuses, here is an update: as of today, I am 37 weeks and 6 days pregnant!! Baby T can come at any time, my goal has been to make it to 38 weeks in case we are having a boy so that his little lungs will be ready for the outside world. It looks like we are going to make that goal! I am still feeling surprisingly good. Not great (sleeping is not as easy these days, note the time of this post...) but good enough to continue to work and do all my regular tasks that I would normally do. Another positive is that Baby T is way down in my pelvis (or has "dropped"), the midwife verified this news but I have known for some time, as I can get pretty sore and pee even more often than before (I didn't know it was possible either...). Baby T continues to be healthy and tolerate being in the womb, though I am ready to have my body back, he/she can take as long as they need in there, we are in no hurry to rush the process! Eric was out of town this past week (have I mentioned he was promoted? He was! So he had some training to do in Minnesota this week,I'm so proud!!) and I was given strict orders to rest as much as possible, eat very bland foods, and do nothing that has ever induced pregnancy before...ever. Now that he is back, Baby T can come anytime AND I can eat some Mexican food!! Yay!

I think we are completely ready to bring him/her home! The nursery is "done". That is the furniture is set up, adorable and in a gray room. I LOVE how the furniture turned out and I love the gray walls with both the dark, espresso furniture and the white trim, it's perfect! We plan to add boy or girl features/accents to the room once Baby T arrives. In the month or so since I last posted, we have also had 2 showers! Baby Tinch is so loved already!! We got everything we needed and many items that we simply wanted (or we think we want...this is all new to us...). Thank you all sweet friends and family! I will post some pictures in another blog post today! Happy Saturday!

Busy, busy!!

I have not updated in a long time, no worries, family, Baby T, Eric and I are all doing well we are just super busy these days! I will try to update you since I last posted...

Eric went to a conference for work last week (Sunday night through Wednesday) in San Antonio, TX. He had a good time, eating delicious food and networking with lots of people who work with the same p-cards he does. While we were enjoying fall-like weather here at home, it was over 100 degrees in San Antonio!! Despite the heat, he had a good time I think.

While Eric was gone, I just worked and took care of the condo and cats...it seems like a lot more work when I am the only one here to do it (and being 30+ weeks pregnant also slows me down sometimes...). I am teaching clinical again this semester for Aquinas College. This is in addition to my 3/2 (3-12-hour shifts one week and 2 the next week, alternating) job at VCH. I really like teaching peds clinical to nursing students, they are so excited about everything they get to do and see, it can be really refreshing, on the other hand, it can be exhausting....lots of talking/teaching and running around = a very tired momma to be! But the weeks are going by pretty quickly, I feel very blessed to have a job and a half that I continue to learn from everyday. In other news, Baby T, my mom, and I walked in the HeartWalk here in Nashville again this year. I think this is the 4th year mom and I have walked the 5k and raised money for the American Heart Association. It was perfect, fall weather this year and we are excited to have Baby T in his/her BOB stroller on the walk with us next year!

Speaking of Baby T, he/she is doing really well. At my appointment on Tuesday, my belly is measuring "perfectly" (whatever that means....to me it's just big and getting bigger...) and the heartbeat sounds great, it is amazing how loud it is and easy to find! They simply put the Doppler on my belly and there it is! It really is a beautiful sound. He or she still moves around a lot! And likes to kick his or her Daddy every morning and every night, it's funny how he/she knows it's him, and is not near as active when others touch my belly.  I am also continuing to have Braxton Hicks contractions a lot! All my books and the midwife tell me this is perfectly normal and my body's way of practicing for the real thing. I don't mind, practice makes perfect, right? In other baby news, we are interviewing potential pediatricians today, we received tons of suggestions from our friends and family, I know we will find the right one for Baby Tinch! Less than 8 weeks now before we meet Baby Tinch!

Boy or Girl??

The most popular question  I am asked when people see I am expecting is, "are you having a boy or girl?".  My answer is always the same, "we don't know yet, we will find out November 28th (hopefully!!)" People respond 2 ways- A- they say "oh my goodness I could never do that!" or B- "oh how fun, more people should do that!"

We are really excited to learn the gender of our baby and I must admit as time passes, I am more and more curious everyday! Good thing we won't have any more ultrasounds to tempt me! However, in a weak moment the other day, I decided I was going to find out the gender, can't be that difficult, right?! I decided to search the Internet for all the different wives tales, average up the results and come to a decision about what our baby is! Well folks, the jury is still out, the results were literally 50/50! In case you are curious, I stole this from a friend's blog (thanks Jessica), I will put my symptoms in italics, you can decide for yourself what Baby Tinch will be!

It's a boy if:
You didn't experience morning sickness in early pregnancy
Your baby's heart rate is less than 140 beats per minute
You are craving salty or sour foods
Your feet are colder than they were before pregnancy

The hair on your legs has grown faster during pregnancy
Your hands are very dry

Your pillow faces north when you sleep
Dad-to-be is gaining weight, right along with you- he claims this is true, I am a little skeptical...
Pregnancy has you looking better than ever
Your urine is bright yellow in color

Your nose is spreading
You are having headaches
You add your age at the time of conception and the number for the month you conceived and the sum is an even number...Mine is 27+3=30
You crave beef

3 of the 6 Chinese gender predictor calendars say boy.

It's a girl if:
You had morning sickness early in pregnancy
You are carrying the weight in your hips and rear
Your baby's heart rate is at least 140 beats per minute

Your left breast is larger than your right breast
Your hair develops red highlights

You are craving sweets
You are craving fruit-does applesauce count?
You crave orange juice
You are moodier than usual during pregnancy
Your face breaks out more than usual
You refuse to eat the heel of a loaf of bread...not new since pregnancy
Your breasts have really blossomed!
Your pillow faces south when you sleep
Your urine is a dull yellow color
You add your age at the time of conception and the number for the month you conceived and the sum is an odd number
You crave chicken
The other 3 of the 6 Chinese calendar sites say girl...

I guess we will have to wait and see....

Happy Birthday Caelum!

After baby class on Saturday, we had big plans to celebrate a certain nephew on Sunday! I can not believe he is already 1!! It seems like he was born yesterday! Happy Birthday Caelum!!!

Birthday Boy with his Momma

Adorable Curious George Cake

30 weeks!

This week I am 30 weeks!!! Sometimes it seems like I have been pregnant forever and sometimes it seems like we have so much still to do that 10 more weeks will never be enough time for us to get ready for Baby Tinch!

Last Saturday, we had our first baby class. The class focused on all the different aspects of labor, including options for pain control, vaginal births vs. c-sections, and other interventions we may come in contact with during hospitalization. The class was great for Eric and I because it gave us the information we needed to make informed decisions about what we want and why (although I already had some ideas...). And we also got to watch videos on different ways to labor. In some ways I think we are prepared for the labor part but in other ways, I'm terrified.... the most pain I have ever experienced was a sprained ankle, what do I know about pain?! I am trying to focus on having an ideal plan for delivery knowing that my plans may change quickly depending on changes that arise before or during labor. This will be difficult for me, knowing I am a planner to my core and do not like "going with the flow", Eric on the other hand is my perfect counterpart, he knows my need for control yet is patient enough to let things happen the way they should. I am certain (have been since high school...) we were made for one another.

Most of all the class was another reminder that our sweet baby will be here very soon! Less than 10 weeks and counting!!!

Vol fans you may be questioning the Saturday choice for the baby class as our team's biggest game of the year was also this past Saturday-well you read right, we were in class until 4pm Saturday (yes, Eric agreed to this class well in advance) and missed most of the first half of the game. As soon as we turned on the radio in the car we scored to end the half! We were sure all the Vols needed was the Tinch Trio to listen/watch the game and we could turn the game around the second half....no such luck this time. But I still have high hopes for the rest of the season, we made tons of mistakes and still scored lots more points than we have in recent years! We are going to surprise some people!

A post in pictures....

I finally found my camera/computer cord thing! Here are some pics to catch up with previous posts, complete with captions! Obviously I did not take enough pics to do the beach trip justice, here are a few of my favorites! Somehow I didn't get any of Jason and Keeley :(, sorry guys, I am waiting for my picture-taking gene to kick in!! There are also some of Austin's graduation.

I loved the kitchen at the beach house!

Kane and Kennedy also came to graduation!

Quick pregnancy update! I have been feeling really good lately, I started eating more iron (grape nuts!!!) and I can already tell a difference, not that I was ever feeling bad but I definitely have more energy than ever! I am also growing larger by the day, it is no longer a question for strangers as to weather I am pregnant or not, I should make a recording! People ask me freely when I am due (November 28th), what I am having (a baby, duh!, and no we don't know the gender yet...). One sweet environmental services lady at work asked if I was having 2 babies! I said "no ma'am" very politely and felt ever larger the rest of the day...Overall though, third trimester is treating me well!

GO VOLS!!

So... I still haven't found my camera cord thing, I agree, the blog is getting more and more boring without any pretty pics, I apologize and hope to find it this weekend!!

I couldn't look for it this past weekend because we were very busy! On Saturday Eric and I went to the first UT game of the year! We wanted to see a game for sure this season, just not when I was ubber preggo, so we chose game #1. I was a trooper of a pregnant lady, if I do say so myself! It was super hot alllll day! I sweated it out and walked all over creation (campus) with my growing belly and shrinking bladder, then once we got to our awesome seats (I was sooo excited to sit down), the rains came! A huge storm system from out of nowhere caused a rain delay, so we waited it out, got wet again (first time from sweat, this time from the downpour, lucky for me my sweet hubby made me a pancho out of a stadium trash bag), all of this was worth it to see my Vols win and win BIG! We also got to hang out with some friends from Knoxville and their new, precious baby girl as well as R and K!  It was also good to see the campus again too, things are changing and growing but the campus is as pretty as ever! I think it will always feel like a second home...

On Sunday we drove home and on the way, stopped in Cookeville to eat lunch with M and K and two of their sweet boys (they have 3 boys all together)! It was so good to see them! When Baby T arrives, I know restaurant scenes will change for us, but I can already see that having more than one is an even bigger challenge, M and K just go with the flow and make it look easy. We have much to learn from them!

Then Labor Day my mom and I went shopping and she bought us a BOB!!!!! Baby T and I were sooooo excited! For those of you who don't know, a BOB is a stroller, but not just any old stroller, it's a jogging stroller that can convert to regular stroller duties, and I can put it up and down and pack it away all by myself (no muscles required). Baby T's Grandma (my momma) is excited to start training for the half marathon again once Baby T makes his/her arrival, now he or she can train with us too! We love it Mom/Grandma, thanks again!!!! As if this wasn't enough excitement for Monday, we also went to see The Help, it was a great movie. I recommend reading the book first but the movie is very true to the story.

We had a wonderful, long weekend full of friends and family! Hope you all had a fabulous weekend too!

Pregnancy Progress...

As of today I am 26 weeks and 5 days into pregnancy! That means only 94 more days until Baby Tinch's expected arrival! We still have so much to do to prepare and Baby T has lots more growing to do before then, but it seems a little closer every day to when we meet this little boy or girl who has been kicking me! Here are some milestones this week:

Baby T is the size of a hothouse cucumber (not sure what that is but I think it's an English cucumber without seeds...also the font color inspiration this week) or around 14 inches and weighs about 2 pounds! He/she can detect light this week and can hear outside sounds including Eric's voice! I am still feeling great for the most part, I am not sleeping as well because I have to get up to go to the bathroom at least twice during the night, some nights up to 5 times! I also continue to grow larger by the day which is still a little surreal for me but I know the large person in the mirror and on the scale is getting larger for a very good reason. I refuse to worry too much about it, as long as he or she is healthy I can adjust my body later. I also started to have Braxton Hicks contractions this week. The midwife warned me that these would start and sure enough, they did! They don't hurt really, my belly just gets super tight and kind of lop-sided looking, it's strange but not too scary because I knew to expect them!

I would post a belly pic but my camera cord is still missing somewhere in this mess of a nursery! Hopefully after this weekend full of painting and staining I will find it and the nursery will be in working order! Have a great weekend everyone!

Graduation and Anniversary

2 blog posts in 1 day! Definately a record for this girl! A lot has happened though in the past 2 weeks, I feel the need to catch you all up!

We left the beach a day early so that we could make it back to my brother, Austin's graduation from MTSU on Saturday. I was so proud to see him get his diploma, he graduated in 4 years and is now going on to start his Masters in the fall! If you know him, you would know school has not always been his main focus, sports always took center stage at our house (still does). And he doesn't exactly have the Type A personality of his sister, but he did it in less time than most people these days and is now going on for more school! I'm so proud! Anyway all weekend we spent with family and celebrated Austin's accomplishment with a trip to the MTSU farm, he and Jill's house, a local bar, and many other food stops throughout Nashville. Sunday we celebrated at my mom's house with a homemade garden dinner and amazing cocanut cream pies! I am still full from vacation and all the celebrating!

Then on Tuesday 8-16-11, Eric and I celebrated each other! We have been married for 3 years! Sometimes it seems like yesterday that we got married, other days it seems we have been married for as long as I can remember. This year was special because it's our third and we will soon welcome a third Tinch to our family! We celebrated in a low-key kind of way after all the vacationing and celebrating, Eric cooked some delishous NY strip steaks (Baby T and I are loving beef at this moment), we also had baked potatoes, asperagus, and mushrooms. It was delish! We also had blue m&m's for desert (blue are the best, the hubs knows me well!) Every year we try to stick to the traditional anniversary gift guidelines, this year was leather for traditional and crystal/glass for the modern couple. Eric got me this beautiful leather-bound scrapbook complete with all this scrapbook stuff for me to start one for Baby T! It was a perfect gift and gives me a brand new project! I tried to stick to the guidelines but failed this year because Eric needed (wanted) a watch, I was going to get him one with a leather strap so that I would follow the rules...but decided he would like the traditional band much better so maybe next year I will stick to the guidelines a bit better... Happy Anniversary Eric!

The Beach

The beach was lovely! I can not currently find my camera/computer connector cord so you will have to believe me without picture proof. We went to the 30-A (that's what the locals, and very cool people like myself call it ;), last year we stayed in Rosemary Beach and this year we stayed on the opposite side (closer to Destin) in Santa Rosa Beach. Daddy and Gail rented this awesome house (complete with an elevator) and we got to see the entire Texas crew, as well as my Grandparents from PA and cousins Kane and Kennedy. For the most part I relaxed, went to the beach daily, read, shopped a little, and ate a lot! Definitely my style pregnancy vacation. Eric on the other hand had a more adventurous vacation, he went fishing, played golf, and attempted skim boarding (really wish I had pics of that). We also made sure to visit some of our favorite places from last year, Summer Kitchen Cafe, the Donut Truck in Alys Beach, and Red Bar all made our list of favorites. We really love that area, there is so much to do yet you can be as relaxed as you wish. It was also great to see everyone and catch up! It's hard to believe this time next year we will have a nine-month-old along with us!

We had a great time but are glad to be back home to continue preparing for Baby T's arrival, we still have soooo much to do before we are ready.... Hopefully I will find the cord in my mess of an office and post vacay pics soon!

P.S. Grandpa, please notice the text color in your honor!

To Do:

I got called off work today!! I had requested off, so that I could spend the day packing for our beach trip and getting the condo ready for visitors the following weekend but...so far other to do's have been calling me this morning. From the first day we found out we were pregnant, the to do list started, since then we have made some decisions yet still no where near ready for our sweet Baby T to come home! So in an effort to get all my thoughts down in one place and pat myself on the back for things that are done here is the on-going list in progress for Baby T's arrival:

1. Choose OB/midwife- done! I love the Vandy midwives so far, and my primary midwife is wonderful!
2. Find Pediatrician- not done, please send suggestions! Vandy insurance is a bonus!
3. Find wonderful child care center for when I return to work- I am shocked to say this is done! My wonderful mother (childcare guru) helped us find the perfect center for our needs. We have a spot really close to Eric's work in Franklin and we are on the waitlist at Vandy, I am so thankful this is done!!!! Thanks mom!
4. Nursery- not done...in progress
         a. re-finish furniture from when I was a baby ;) - in progress, Eric has stripped all of it, now we have to pick the perfect stain color to match the crib
         b. choose neutral paint and actually paint-I think the choosing is done, we are going to go with a light grey, I think it will be perfect with any bedding!
         c. buy a crib- done! I love the espresso color wood we chose!
         d. choose bedding/accent colors- not done, we need a gender to choose this....16 more weeks....
         e. talk Eric into wainscoting the room ;)- also in progress....
5. Sign-up and attend class/educate ourselves:
         a. Birth class- I signed up yesterday!
         b. Breastfeeding class- scheduled
         c. Hospital Tour- also scheduled
         d. Buy books/read everything we can on how to be first time parents!!- again, suggestions are welcome in this department!
6. Choose a name- in progress, names are tough! I bought a book with  60,000 names, we have been through it a few times and we have a few we both like but it is such a huge decision!! I want whatever we choose to: be unique, but not too unique, pronounceable by any future teacher/kid, strong enough to be President yet cute enough to suit a kid, plus I want to make sure our baby looks like their name. Hopefully we will have some choices prepared by the time we meet Baby T. Again suggestions are welcome...

I am sure there are more things I should be doing but I really do need to pack for the beach!! I think Baby T will love the waves and water as much as his/her momma and daddy! I will post when we return!

Little Kicks ;)

Exciting news on the pregnancy front- I can now feel Baby Tinch's little kicks and punches! I have felt things here and there for the past few weeks but I couldn't be sure it was actually Baby T or simply just gas....plus when we went for our last ultrasound, they told us my placenta is anterior on my uterus. This is fine as far as a healthy pregnancy but she did say I may not feel movement until closer to 24 weeks because of it. The way she explained it, Baby T would basically have to kick or punch through the pillow-y placenta before I could feel it. Evidently, Baby T is growing stronger by the day because I am 100% positive he/she is consistently kicking/punching me! He/she is already getting me ready to be a mommy by waking me up in the middle of the night and very early morning. I don't mind, I like knowing he/she is in there ;)  It's exciting too because Eric can even feel it! It really is a cool feeling and once again makes the pregnancy feel even more real!

In other news, my belly is growing larger by the day! Literally-by the day! Nurse friends: I can barely double-tie my contact isolation gowns now!!! Pics to come later, we are going to Florida next Saturday for a much needed vacation, I am sure there will be plenty of photo ops then!

Baby Shower!

This past Sunday Eric's super sweet second cousin, Jami,  hosted our first baby shower! It was a duel shower for both Baby Tinch and Baby Jackson (Eric's second cousin, Jessica's baby boy to be!). We had such a great time, Jami is the best hostess/party planner I know! The food was great (BTL dip-delish!!), the cake was soooo cute (see pic below), and Baby Tinch (and parents) got some great essentials for when he/she arrives!

Adorable, Yummy Elephant Cake!!

1 of the 2 homemade quilts Baby T received!

Caelum loved the quilt too ;)

Belly shot, I'm 22 weeks, (the black dress
is very forgiving). Jessica is 28 weeks!
Doesn't she look great?!

Thank you everyone for the wonderful gifts and for coming to the shower! Special Thanks to Jami, for all your hard work!

Chattanooga!

We took a short weekend trip to Chattanooga this past weekend. It was so nice to get out of town for a short trip, I think we will have to plan many other weekend getaways before Baby Tinch arrives.

We drove out on Saturday morning and drove straight to Rock City. Eric had never been there and I only remember it from childhood, so I thought it would be the perfect, tourist-ee place to go first. The rocks, waterfalls and natural beauty were wonderful, but it was a lot more commercialized than I remember, still we had a great time. Here are some pics from Rock City

After Rock City, we headed down the mountain to find a place for lunch. We found a cute little bistro/bar place and had gourmet burgers on their patio with a live band playing in the background, it was lovely. Then we headed downtown to check out the aquarium. We both really like aquariums and zoos, it seems like every city we visit we have to go to one or the other. The Chattanooga Aquarium is awesome! It is separated into two parts, fresh water and salt water, and the way it's designed is perfect, you never feel like part of a cattle herd when exploring the tanks. My favorite is always the otters, I know they aren't exactly a water creature but all the good aquariums have them and they are so fun to watch ;)

After a delicious dinner (and desert!) we headed to our hotel, it was a boutique hotel called the Stone Fort Inn. It had more of a bed and breakfast feel than a hotel in the middle of the city. I took some pics of the billiard room, library, and street view of the hotel, complete with a 21 week belly.

21 Weeks! Baby is Growing!!!
After a gourmet breakfast at the hotel on Sunday morning we headed home from our relaxing weekend escape. We will definitely be back to Chattanooga, it's a great place to visit with or without kids!
