Little Kicks ;)

Exciting news on the pregnancy front- I can now feel Baby Tinch's little kicks and punches! I have felt things here and there for the past few weeks but I couldn't be sure it was actually Baby T or simply just gas....plus when we went for our last ultrasound, they told us my placenta is anterior on my uterus. This is fine as far as a healthy pregnancy but she did say I may not feel movement until closer to 24 weeks because of it. The way she explained it, Baby T would basically have to kick or punch through the pillow-y placenta before I could feel it. Evidently, Baby T is growing stronger by the day because I am 100% positive he/she is consistently kicking/punching me! He/she is already getting me ready to be a mommy by waking me up in the middle of the night and very early morning. I don't mind, I like knowing he/she is in there ;)  It's exciting too because Eric can even feel it! It really is a cool feeling and once again makes the pregnancy feel even more real!

In other news, my belly is growing larger by the day! Literally-by the day! Nurse friends: I can barely double-tie my contact isolation gowns now!!! Pics to come later, we are going to Florida next Saturday for a much needed vacation, I am sure there will be plenty of photo ops then!

Baby Shower!

This past Sunday Eric's super sweet second cousin, Jami,  hosted our first baby shower! It was a duel shower for both Baby Tinch and Baby Jackson (Eric's second cousin, Jessica's baby boy to be!). We had such a great time, Jami is the best hostess/party planner I know! The food was great (BTL dip-delish!!), the cake was soooo cute (see pic below), and Baby Tinch (and parents) got some great essentials for when he/she arrives!

Adorable, Yummy Elephant Cake!!

1 of the 2 homemade quilts Baby T received!

Caelum loved the quilt too ;)

Belly shot, I'm 22 weeks, (the black dress
is very forgiving). Jessica is 28 weeks!
Doesn't she look great?!

Thank you everyone for the wonderful gifts and for coming to the shower! Special Thanks to Jami, for all your hard work!

Chattanooga!

We took a short weekend trip to Chattanooga this past weekend. It was so nice to get out of town for a short trip, I think we will have to plan many other weekend getaways before Baby Tinch arrives.

We drove out on Saturday morning and drove straight to Rock City. Eric had never been there and I only remember it from childhood, so I thought it would be the perfect, tourist-ee place to go first. The rocks, waterfalls and natural beauty were wonderful, but it was a lot more commercialized than I remember, still we had a great time. Here are some pics from Rock City

After Rock City, we headed down the mountain to find a place for lunch. We found a cute little bistro/bar place and had gourmet burgers on their patio with a live band playing in the background, it was lovely. Then we headed downtown to check out the aquarium. We both really like aquariums and zoos, it seems like every city we visit we have to go to one or the other. The Chattanooga Aquarium is awesome! It is separated into two parts, fresh water and salt water, and the way it's designed is perfect, you never feel like part of a cattle herd when exploring the tanks. My favorite is always the otters, I know they aren't exactly a water creature but all the good aquariums have them and they are so fun to watch ;)

After a delicious dinner (and desert!) we headed to our hotel, it was a boutique hotel called the Stone Fort Inn. It had more of a bed and breakfast feel than a hotel in the middle of the city. I took some pics of the billiard room, library, and street view of the hotel, complete with a 21 week belly.

21 Weeks! Baby is Growing!!!
After a gourmet breakfast at the hotel on Sunday morning we headed home from our relaxing weekend escape. We will definitely be back to Chattanooga, it's a great place to visit with or without kids!

What I wish I would have known about pregnancy...

Today I want to make a list of all the things I wish I would have known about pregnancy before I got pregnant. Please don't take it the wrong way, Eric and I feel beyond blessed that we are going to have our first baby! And truly, I have nothing to complain about compared to many pregnant mommies, for starters we were able to get pregnant right away, I threw up a total of twice in the first trimester, both times more because of my error than horrible nausea, and after last week everything is right on track with our Baby Tinch. Trust me, I am super grateful for all these blessings but nonetheless, I feel the need to complain slightly about some of the not so fun things about pregnancy, that I wish I could have prepared myself for before....for any male (or female) readers, that this may be a tad too much for you to handle as I plan to be honest and possibly disgust you, you may want to stop reading here.

  1. You feel fat before you gain a single pound. Bloating is the culprit! I felt huge literally the day after I found out I was pregnant. And so far the bloating has continued week in and week out. Thanks to this bloating I start out in the am with a small baby belly and by the end of the day, the belly has doubled in size, it's amazing really. All my books tell me this is normal and will continue until Baby Tinch arrives (yay)! Maybe my bloating is worse than others, but I feel like I never got the memo on this little (or large, depending on the time of day) side effect.
  2. A slow down occurs. What could make the bloating even worse? Constipation. Not much else to say about this one, again the books say it's completely normal, I just find it very different from the norm...
  3. Acne. Yuck, I had my fair share in middle school and high school, but it is all coming back to me now. And not just on my face, my chest and back are also getting their share, perhaps to make up time...?!  This has come and gone through the weeks, but certainly continues to rear it's ugly head at the most inconvenient times.
  4. The decisions start as soon as you know you are pregnant. I plan to have an entire post dedicated to the various decisions you have to make as a parent before you ever meet your sweet baby. At first I was a bit overwhelmed with all the choices we would have to make, but we are getting through the list slowly but surely. I simply hope we are making the right choices. I am well aware this is one pregnancy symptom that will not go away and will in fact only intensify after we meet Baby Tinch, lets hope we know what we are doing....
That's it, not too bad right? Every single symptom will be worth it in the end!

We are Having A....

Healthy Baby!!!

We went to our big ultrasound on Tuesday and Baby Tinch is growing well! For all my medical friends we saw a brain with ventricles, cerebellum, an intact spine, 4 chambers of the heart, an intact RVOT and LVOT, 2 arms, 2 legs, sweet baby tummy, 2 kidneys, and intact lips and nose. During the "is it a boy or girl" part, we turned away from the screen, and the tech didn't even put it in the final report so no one knows the sex of our baby except her.

She also measured everything, and we are right on track with our timing of Baby Tinch, everything is developing as it should. All the bone measurements are in the 50th percentile except the legs which are in the 95th! Maybe it is possible for Eric and I to have a tall baby...!!? We were thrilled everything was great, but kind of sad it was the last time we will see our baby until he or she is here in our arms. Baby Tinch was a bit shy this time and kept his/her face covered and down, facing my back (and bladder) for the entire ultrasound, so we did not get any good face shots to take home with us. Thankfully everything was fine, we will be sure to get plenty of face shots when he or she arrives in November!

19 Weeks

Many of my out of town friends and family have asked to see belly pictures, consider this belly shot #1. I am told by others I wasn't really showing until this past week. To be fair, I work in scrubs and it's summer so I am otherwise living in comfy dresses-it may be harder to tell that I have a bump because of my wardrobe but I promise, the bump is there! Baby Tinch is making his/her appearance! About two weeks ago I could tell but this week I really "popped".

Eric and I go back for the big "20 week" ultrasound on Tuesday. I call it a big one because we will see all Baby Tinch's anatomy closely, including the big things like brain and heart!! I am really excited to see him or her again (and get more pictures for the fridge) but I am also really nervous. As most of you know, I work in a place where we see many children with heart defects, chromosomal anomalies, and neurologic defects. I know the children we treat are a very, very slim portion of the population, but I'm still nervous....I am told that I will never stop worrying about our baby, but I hope at least some of my fears will go away after Tuesday!

One thing we will not be looking for is little boy or girl parts on the ultrasound. Eric and I decided we want the sex to be a surprise on Baby Tinch's birthday. I really have gone back and forth with this decision, as most of you know, I am a planner, I like having everything in order and planned. I have always been this way, in just about every aspect of life but, for certain surprises, I can wait. I always wanted to be surprised at Christmas, when most of my friends would search for their Christmas presents weeks before, I never wanted to ruin the surprise. Baby Tinch will be the biggest surprise of our lives and I think it will help me push that much quicker ;). We only want a healthy baby, really, we would be overjoyed for a boy or girl.

For anyone curious, I think it's a boy, not for any particular reason, just a feeling I have. Eric refuses to guess what it is, we all know how he hates to be wrong...my mom thinks it's a girl (also based on nothing, just a feeling) and no other guesses so far, what do you think Baby Tinch will be?

New Blog

Welcome to our blog! I have thought about starting a blog for a long time now. I like the idea of sharing my thoughts and pictures without sharing with all of my Facebook "friends". Now that we have a little Baby Tinch on the way, it seemed like the perfect time to start!

The purpose of The Tinch Trio will be to update friends and family on my pregnancy and Baby Tinch even after he or she is born. It is called the Tinch Trio as it will be about all three of us, even if I am the only one posting. This is a new endeavor for me, I have never had a blog before and for those of you who know me well, technology is not always my best friend (spelling and typing are not exactly my strengths either...). Lucky for me, my hubby is a technology (and spelling) wiz and will help me through. Please feel free to comment on our thoughts, at the very least, it will be nice to know someone is reading :)
