Nolan visits VCH

Warning: this is a bit graphic/gross...at least there are no pictures....

Nolan came with me to work yesterday. No, we didn't exactly take care of any children or stay for a 12-hour shift. We went to work on the schedule. We don't have childcare of Tuesdays and Thursdays and we always do the schedule on Tuesdays so that meant I had a baby with me for a couple hours at work, no big deal, right? He could visit and meet some of my work friends, and play with his toys while I worked, really no big deal, so I thought....

I was as prepared as I could have been. I brought the baby Bjorn, the stroller, the diaper bag was stocked with toys, a bottle, a blanket and tons of diapers just in case, at the last minute I even thought to bring an umbrella because it was looking like rain. We get there and park and I get out to feed the meter then prepare to get Mr. Man out of his seat and into the carrier, this is when I hear it...gross, belly/bottom noises coming from Mr. Tinch...yuck-still no big deal, I will just change him in the car, before we walk in...oh my, it was everywhere!!! I picked him up and it came out his pant legs. Soooooo gross...all over the seat of the 4runner, his really cute, well-planned outfit, his legs, socks, everywhere!!! I went to work cleaning it up with the plethora of wipes I brought, had to change his clothes into an outfit that was not meant for meeting new people, nor walking through the rain but it would have to do for now! Finally, I get him clean enough to be presentable and off we go in the Bjorn, halfway there I discover there is poop on the back of the carrier!!! I folded it down immediately so it wasn't visible, then continued to make a b-line for the hospital. Once I get inside and on the elevator I realize there is poop on me!!! On the pant leg of my jeans...needless to say, the both of us were less than presentable once we got to the floor. I did help with the schedule and Nolan was very well behaved while we worked, but we didn't exactly go around meeting everyone like I had envisioned with poop on my jeans and the stinch still lingering over both of us.

Lesson learned: always pack a change of super, cute clothes for the parent and child in the diaper bag!

  1. Oh my gosh!! I laughed so hard when I read this...of course he did not want to wear presentable clothing, he wanted to look like he belonged in the PCICU! They have a way of doing that!
